The newest travel magazine in town – WildJunket

WildJunket Magazine

I love when dreams come true. I also love visionaries who actively pursue their dreams and paths without being swayed by (in my opinion) unnecessary peripheral noise or static.

That’s how amazing success stories are born.

For fellow travel writer, blogger, and friend, Nellie Huang, it was starting up her own magazine, and what an impressive start it’s been. We all waited with bated breath to see just how the new magazine would look and feel when Nellie announced last year that it was indeed in the works, and I couldn’t be more excited for her.

Professionally laid out, clean, glossy, and more importantly, teeming with rich and diverse content that keeps you flipping through and wanting more.

The beautifully designed, recently launched digital WildJunket Magazine not only features stunning photography and solid engrossing travel writing from Candace Rose Rardon (contributing editor), Abigail King, Megan Eaves, Sarah Lee, Andy Jarosz, and more, but it also covers a broad range of destinations – from Namibia to Oman to Macedonia to Arctic Svalbard and Lapland.

According to the WildJunket team, “…as an international adventure magazine, we cover offbeat destinations, outdoorsy activities, unusual corners of the world, special interest journeys and deep cultural experiences.”  And the magazine’s inaugural issue, a spin-off of the popular blog, has stayed true to this concept.

Current Issue #1 includes the following stories:

  • ARCTIC: Icebergs, glaciers and polar bears
  • NAMIBIA: Secrets of the world’s oldest desert
  • OMAN: Dhofar’s frankincense trail
  • LAPLAND: Sámi traditions in Sweden
  • CHINA: 10-page guide to the Middle Kingdom
The rest of Issue #1 covers reoccurring sections:
  • Trip Ideas: 10 wildlife trips
  • Under the Radar: Macedonia
  • Dispatches: Nepal
  • Just Back: Austria
  • Feast: Hyderabad, India
  • Stay: Turkey Cave Hotel

I’ve also got a multi-page photo essay spread in the magazine covering Sámi culture in Swedish Lapland. Here’s a screenshot below, but you’ll have to buy the magazine (which I highly recommend) to see the entire essay as well as read gorgeous tightly-crafted travel writing.
