While currently sorting through photos from Mauritius to add to my collection, I realized how most of the photos I see online from the island are usually taken around beaches and the ocean, or within its capital city, Port Louis. Mauritius has a stunning interior which I got to explore en route to and within Domaine de l’Etoile nature reserve.
So I wanted to share about 20 landscape photos of Mauritius, especially its interior rolling hills and lush greenery. The cloudy day added a lot of drama to each landscape shot and the fields of sugarcane and pineapple. While I love photographing people, creating environmental portraits, and moving through markets and their lifestyles, I do enjoy landscape photography, though I’d rather wait for gloomy skies or inclement weather as well as chase natural light angles to add atmosphere to my photos.
I was in Mauritius on assignment for Four Seasons working on several stories and I got to explore this beautiful island deeply through its food, markets, and local culture. Can’t wait to return.

Everything is beautiful. Much of the scenery reminds of the countryside in Jamaica. I love the big open sky – one thing that struck me when I went to the Serengeti as well.
Thanks Kim! You’ll love Mauritius. Hope you had an amazing time in the Serengeti. I still haven’t explored it yet.
Lola, so beautiful and we’re heading there in April! I can’t wait.
