Located along Victoria Island on Ahmadu Bellow Way, Bar Beach was once the most famous beach in Lagos, Nigeria. Known for aggressively flooding its banks, there were blocks of concrete acting as artificial levees to keep the Atlantic waters back.
Due to its strong churning currents, swimming and surfing around the area can challenge even world-class athletes and is strongly discouraged.
Today, the beach no longer exists as is, and it is a heavy construction zone of dredging for new development and to extend the island.
