“Can you see them?” whispers Anna-Carin as we make our way through tall blades of yellowish green grass. We wonder what she’s looking at. All we see is grass. Instinctively, she knows where to look for the three-month old twin calves, Klara and Märta.
We finally reach the calves which are huddled together. One of them, Klara, gets up and walks up to Anna-Carin, nuzzling her. “Ida’s their mother,” Anna-Carin points out to a female moose (known as a cow) grazing a hundred or so feet away. “Ida’s only two years old and too inexperienced to raise her babies so they’re mine now,” she adds, gently stroking the baby. “I’ve had to adopt and feed them like my own.”

In the meantime, check out a few more photos below:

Calves hiding in the brush.
Apparently, moose dig ripe bananas.

@Sophie – Thanks!
@Audrey – The babies are definitely soft. The antlers on the bulls are actually fuzzy (according to Urb ’cause I was too freaked out to touch them myself).
@Ekua – Definitely odd looking creatures. We actually ran into 3 moose 2 days ago while on a last minute drive up north.
@Kristin & Angel – Thanks!
The last but one picture is very cute just like the others one :))
I LOVE these pictures. Brilliant!
Haha, I’ve never seen a picture of a baby moose… funny looking creatures! I too really like the photo where the moose has a banana in its mouth. It reminds me of a silly face kids will make where they put their thumbs on their head, wiggle their fingers and stick out their tongues.
Absolutely adore the photo of the moose with the banana in the mouth! In all my time in Estonia I never saw a moose even though I was always taunted by the road signs everywhere for moose crossings. The babies look so soft – are they?
They’re beautiful, aren’t they. Moose hunting season now, on both sides of the border, I suppose. I really hate that. Great pics, Lola!
@Sonya – Thanks so much! Heading over to check out the rest too.
Love your blog! Today, I included it in “10 (More) Photoblogs You’ll Love” on TravelingGreener.com.
Oh! I’ll never forget when I first went moose scouting. It was amazing! They are such beautiful animals. We stayed in our car and moose just looked at us for a long time, it was funny and peaceful at the same time. We were in Soderkoping.
Matured moose can be that big? Nice pictures.
