A little over two weeks ago, we stole away to the island of Öland just off the eastern coast of Sweden. Our good friends extended the invitation and it was a wonderful and much needed opportunity to unwind, unplug (seriously, I didn’t take my cellphone), and just soak in the quintessential Swedish summer lifestyle that so many locals cherish.
This was my first time on Öland and over the four days we were there, we crisscrossed the island from top to bottom taking in icons like Borgholm Castle, hung out at several beaches, ate fresh strawberries and salads plucked right from the garden, dug into a superb grill restaurant (separate post coming on this one!) and just laid back counting simple blessings with hearts filled with gratitude.
Here are some Swedish summer photos from Öland.
I rarely share photos of my husband here but I thought I’d share this one of him unleashing his inner (and outer) jock with a soccer ball.
Check out more Swedish summer food, lifestyle, nature, people, and landmark photos in my Öland image bank.

you captured each moment so beautifully! i’m glad you and your family had a chance to unwind and relax 🙂
Thanks so much. Gratefully we did and hope to make it an annual thing.
There’s so much love in your photos. Looks like you had a great time on the island! I first visited two years ago in low-season, can see how gorgeous it must be in summer.
Erica!!! So great to hear from you. It was a wonderful time and we hope to make it an annual thing.
Darn – forgot to mention how adorable your little kidlet is. What a smile — just like mommy’s.
Awww, thanks 🙂
Lola, these captures you posted are ridiculously gorgeous. I am sitting on the deck of our summer cottage, overlooking the lake, and I can telll you that you’ve captured the whimsy, simplicity and joy of summer — wherever it may be. Also – I bought the big yellow phone that synchs perfectly with my Windows 8 desktop, and am LOVING it. Why doesn’t anyone know about this phone? Enjoy the rest of the summer girl!
Thanks so much Lyn! Sounds like you’re having a wonderful summer. Hope you enjoy the Nokia! My daughter cracked my phone so now I have to find a new one.
Love that windmill! Too bad it won’t fit in my backpack… 🙁
Ha! 🙂 The island is sprinkled with dozens of these windmills.
oh my God !! This is what i call “semester jag vill ha”No cellphone ? ahhahahaha great. You have a nice family and your little girl is cute and funny. My fav picture is the one with her swimsuit in front of the sea. Enjoy your summer.

Thanks Craig! Summer is flying by real quickly too.
First of all Lola you have a lovely family your little one is getting so big-time flies!!! The pictures are absolutely breathtaking and the place looks like you could just sit and melt right into the beauty and the stillness. Glad you had a little time to yourself to recharge the batteries. 🙂
Thanks so much Monica! Loved our time there and are now thinking of making it a yearly tradition too.
