To be honest, when I first saw our goal of raising $80,000 for Room to Read to build libraries in Zambia, I was a little worried and I felt those familiar feelings of doubt slowly creep in.

Would our travel community meet this audacious goal within an economic climate that has been slapped around this year?

Would people even care amidst their own personal problems and struggles?

As of Friday, December 16 when Passports with Purpose closed, you all had contributed an impressive $89,159.00 towards building the libraries we need to set up in Zambia. Over $9,000 more than our goal of $80,000. Your contributions to this effort has been nothing short of humbling and reaffirming.

So I wanted to say a special “Thank you!” to the following people/organizations:

– To the visionaries behind this philanthropic effort now entering its 5th year – Debbie, Pam, Beth, and Michelle.

– To Doug Lofland of Beyond Boundaries Travel for donating an amazing prize – 8-Night Thailand Biking Tour. The winner of that tour is Joanna June, blogger behind Coffee, Books & Beer. You can read her wonderful blog post about winning here.

– To top sponsors – Round The World With Us, Travellerspoint, and HomeAway – for their significant monetary contributions.

– To every single one of you who contributed – from $10 to a couple thousand.

Thank you. You all truly exemplify what this season of sharing and giving is all about.

Happy Holidays!
