Autumn isn’t my favorite season. Spring and what it symbolizes – rejuvenation, rebirth, and second chances – is my favorite. And despite the fiery reds and oranges and vibrancy that comes with this season which arguably makes it the most beautiful of seasons, for us here in Sweden, it means darkness is here.
Darkness followed by long frosty winter days.
On a recent stroll with my daughter in tow, I stopped to take a few quick shots with my phone. Like many people do when they happen upon a fiery cluster of red or orange leaves. I looked down at my daughter and snapped a photo – well, several photos – as well. I stopped to soak it all in.
Sure, autumn isn’t my favorite season but I pray and hope to God I get to spend dozens and dozens of autumns with my daughter. With both my children and their future children.
So I will stop looking at it as the season when darkness falls despite its unparalleled beauty, but rather, as a season of strength and resilience. Of staying beautiful when beauty starts to fade. Of hope in things to come. Of the rejuvenation and rebirth that comes with spring, my favorite.
Autumn is my season of hope.

Ah Lola, Fall is beautiful and brings with it changes as well. The air is cleaner, crisper and smells cleaner. The leaves are beautiful, and even though it is a signal that the Winter months and darkness are coming along with that feeling brings, warmth, family, quiet reflection of the year gone by. Being able to snuggle up by the fire with soft, warm blankets reading, playing board games and just being together with your family and friends is what it is all about. So don’t fret Fall so much, but embrace it for it brings wondrous memories to cherish. And as far as the dark goes well that is what candles are for. :O)
Yes indeed, it is a beautiful season! And I absolutely love white winters in Sweden when it’s not too cold and everything is coated in powdery snow. I’ve been looking forward to Christmas since summer now 🙂
