Work Updates: Latest publication news

National Geographic Traveller - Big Picture - July/August 2012 - Lola Akinmade Åkerström

While it may seem like I’m not slowing down, I actually am. Starting September when my husband is done with paternity leave, I’ll be taking a large chunk of maternity leave (around 75%) which means I won’t be actively pitching until January/February and I will be finishing off outstanding projects (iPhone app, photography archiving, business-related travel, getting an intern on-board in some capacity, etc).

If cool opportunities come knocking, I’m not stupid and will consider them, but I will be taking an active break from chasing new editors and new publications while on maternity leave. After recently having a 2,000+ word narrative article for a new publication killed because ground-level reality didn’t match the editor’s idealized view, I definitely need to realign my efforts, energy, and time work-wise.
