Stacey “Stace” Hamilton has been a photographer for two years and currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts. She has always been a very creative person and never thought that her creativity as a young girl would transpire into her being a professional photographer. From the moment she purchased her first DSLR, she fell in love and knew that photography was her calling. Stacey is currently planning to go to photography school at either New England School of Photography or Massachusetts College of Art & Design to fulfill this gift that she never knew she would love so much. Once she finishes school she wants to indulge into photography full time and begin her travel adventures around the globe.
How would you describe your style of photography?
Macro photography is my favorite specifically because I have a deep passion for capturing those tiny beautiful details that make up the subjects as a whole. The details of animate and inanimate organisms are often overlooked, and I love that I notice those details and can share them with others.
Can you share the backstories behind these two photos?
An aspiring model by the name of Sigourney who embraces her biracial ethnicity. When Sigourney and I first met before scheduling to shoot together, she shared with me that she used to be teased about her different features and biracial appearance as a young girl. Her story touched me and drove me to highlight each and every one of her unique features. Her confidence glowed as she was in front of my camera and as an adult, she embraces her biracial beauty.
When I first stepped into the photography world, it began with me capturing photos like this. I love being out in nature and capturing all of the natural beauty that grows from the earth. This photo was captured as the Summer of 2014 was coming to a close. Taken in the beautiful Botanical Garden in Brooklyn, NY. It was the perfect moment and a very interesting plant to capture while bumble bees and honey bees were buzzing around my head.
What are your dreams as a photographer?
My dream is to combine travel with photography. I aspire to be an avid traveler and travel the world for a living to shoot nature and fashion. I want to show people that there is far more beauty to the world than we can imagine. Photos in my opinion are proof that life continues to exist even when some aspects of it are physically gone. We should always embrace the unfamiliar and familiar beauties and not take them for granted.
The “Snapshot” series are mini interviews with fellow black travel photographers to inspire others and myself. As I’ve navigated the world of travel photography over the last few years, I’ve found very few fellow photographers of color who are also doing this professionally with a heavy focus on travel documentary. So this inspirational resource of professional travel photographers of color is a way for people to always find us. Please get in touch if you’d like to be featured or know of others to feature.
