Photos: Capturing lifestyles in Split, Croatia

Split Croatia Travel Photography

I squeezed in a few more edits before the end of the year and this set is from Split, Croatia. The photos are mostly of fishmongers who sell fresh fish and shellfish at the historic fish market. I was up early around 5:45 am to hang out with them before they opened up the market for the day. Will share a photo essay in the new year.

But in the meantime.. view more photos in my Split image bank.

  1. When I look at those two women the thought that pops into my mind is “Oh the stories they could tell about the things they have seen on a daily bases”!

    • I know! I would love to just sit and listen to their stories.

      • Me too! I love history and there is nothing more exciting than sitting down and listening to it from someone that has lived it first hand!

  2. mehnn i’m looking at all these pictures and thinking “ahn ahn isn’t this fish they’re cutting? where are the flies?” LOL sorry i can’t help myself sometimes

    • Haha, it was very early in the morning so the flies weren’t out in full force yet. They thrive on midday sun.

  3. I love this photo. There’s something about women in the marketplace that’s so intimate.

    • I agree! What I also love is the subtle disposition of the woman on the left. Beyond customer service, you can see the intrinsic respect she has for the older woman. From an era and culture that actually respects much older people. Something that’s getting lost these days.

      • I agree Lola. It is really sad that a lot of cultures no longer value their elders! The way they are treated is just sickening to me!
