Had to cancel an upcoming trip to Istanbul to cover ASTA’s International Destination Expo. While the traveler in me viciously fought the decision, my true priorities won.
Had I not canceled, I would have been on the road (6 countries) every single month since December for extended periods of time.
Okay?! What’s the big deal? you might ask.
For me, finding adequate time to properly settle into my new home and learn Swedish makes it a big deal. Plus, I do have an upcoming press trip early May and a trip to the US end of June for TBEX planned at the moment so buffers are super important.
Travel Photography
Been sorting through thousands (literally) of photographs from Nigeria which I’m pretty excited about. I’ve begun grouping them into themes which I’ll soon share via themed posts as opposed to a general gallery.
Humbling News
I’ve always been a fan of Roger Ebert. Everything about him oozes inspiration, openness, and a certain level-headed grounding that’s so difficult to find nowadays from those in the public eye. So finding these words from him on his Twitter page had me clutching my heart in utter gratitude.

Upcoming Pieces
I never really share these until contracts have been signed (whether the work has been published or not).
More common sense than jinxing anything. But I’ve got a few in the works including one confirmed (and maybe more) for Heart & Soul.
I do have a piece in National Geographic Traveler on Stockholm’s Green Hotels either in the latest or next issue. Since I don’t get NGT here in Stockholm, if anyone sees it, please let me know and I’ll track down a copy.

@Audrey – Totally looking forward to meeting you guys at TBEX!
@Everyone – Many thanks!
I completely understand needing time away from travel to feel grounded on your priorities of settling into life in Sweden and learning the language. Even though we are almost always on the road, I find we need to take breaks more and more for balance and grounding. It also makes you appreciate the intense time you spend on trips more.
We’re headed to TBEX in June – can’t wait to meet you there!
geeez! Ebert shout out, that is huge! congrats Lola, i count myself lucky to work among talent of your caliber. You ROCK
Congratulations on everything, you deserve it and yes, my life has been enriched by your spirit and wisdom. Mr. Ebert is a beautiful soul and so correct.

Lola, I love your exhuberant jumping pix! I’m so glad you are wise enough to know you have to pace yourself. I had to learn the hard way. That Twitter Ebert mention is too cool, congrats!
As much as I hate to admit it, sometimes not traveling is better for mind/body/soul 😉 So I understand that decision. I love the photo! Is it you?
Ekua – Yup! That’s me and my classic jumping silliness. I’ve got dozens of jumping shots.
Didn’t see that post by Roger Ebert. It is heartfelt and genuine. I followed his link to your High Street entry – and now I’m a fan. I guess this is how it is supposed to work, Lola. (Thank you, Roger.)
Hi Tom – Thanks for visiting my site and hope you return often. Super grateful to Roger for the mention.
Such great news all around – congrats on the Ebert mention!!!
Thanks Abbie!
Wow, Lola, that’s so cool about Roger Ebert. How/when did you meet him?
@Christine – I’ve never met him! I think he found out about my site via another Twitterer.
