According to the exhibit, it “centres Afro hair as artistic expression, cultural knowledge, and lived identity. Through sculptural wigs, braided forms, photography, and live performance, it invites visitors to experience hair beyond aesthetics - as heritage, resistance, and self-definition. Drawing from Afrofuturist thinking, the exhibition weaves together past, present, and future.”

What happens when your rates go up but your past working relationships haven’t caught up?

One situation we often talk about with regards to personal relationships is the loss that occurs when expansion and evolution occurs. When these dynamics shift, there’s an uncomfortable space where we have to both mourn the loss of the relationship while celebrating our next stage, transition, and alignment with our life’s purpose.

But what about in the work place?
Within your specific industries?
In the freelancing world?

When people who once cherished your voice now balk at your rates? As if you aren’t worthy of it?

It’s akin to forever treating your kids like babies without acknowledging their teenage years or transition into adulthood.

It’s difficult to mourn work relationships that once made sense in your metaphoric youth and not so much in your new season.

This is the deep channel of professional pain we must swim through as we make our way from tight ponds to expansive seas of possibilities.

Let’s acknowledge this, but even better, in a world of limitations we impose on ourselves and each other, let’s celebrate growth and the courage it takes to evolve.
