  • To be completely transparent, it has felt so awkward sharing my book news. The world is burning down all around us, people are fighting for their lives every single day, children are starving, and there's so much hate, bigotry, and apathy surrounding us. It truly feels so weird… In moments like these, I remember the parable of the talents and the servant who buried his talents. In addition to raising awareness, we must continue to live. On behalf of those who can't, we must continue to live in gratitude for the privilege and positions we've been given through grace... There is no perfect duration to wait. We can't put our lives completely on hold while we continue to read the room. I hope you're giving yourself grace too as we all figure out how to keep living and showing up against this surreal background of chaos and inhumanity… As a storyteller, what I can do is continue to tell the human condition in all its complexity as raw and truthfully as I can through both fiction and non-fiction. I am proud of the books I've worked hard to bring into the world. I am grateful I get to do this, and I am also tremendously humbled to be able to write stories. In times like these which feel moorless, evil, depressing, and hopeless... Beyond raising awareness and supporting how we can in our own ways, we must continue to create moments of joy and hope. We must continue to graciously model love and what it means to live faithfully amid life’s storms. #life #empathy #humanity

  • Today is #WorldPhotographyDay and for those who only know my work as a travel writer and author, I want to reintroduce myself as a travel photographer too, who specializes in culture, tradition, and lifestyles - https://www.akinmade.com/photos I’ve been a professional #travelphotographer for close to 15 years traveling to over 80 countries, and contributing to the likes of @natgeo, @adventurecom, @bbc_travel, and so many more. I have also collaborated on commercial projects with @nike, @mercedesbenz, @dove, and more. I am on @cntraveler’s Women in Travel Power List, a @satwfoundation Bill Muster Travel Photographer of Year, a @hasselblad Heroine, and have won/been awarded for my photography over the years, including PDN World In Focus, @travelphotographeroftheyear, and @foodphotoaward. My big break as a travel photographer came through a photo essay on @bbcnews, and then subsequently collaborating with @natgeotv and @southafrica Tourism. I was also one of roughly 300 photographers represented by the agency, National Geographic Creative before it was shut down after the @disney acquisition. I have several images in the official National Geographic Image Collection, and contribute to imagebanks of @visitgreenland, @swedense, Costa Brava Tourism among others. Over at @natgeotraveluk, I’m a contributing photographer, though the last two years, I’ve focused heavily on writing novels, and less on contributing. Hope to remedy that soon again.
